We didn't start the fire, but we sure as hell didn't put it out either.

So, I have had a lot of thinking to do over the past few days. I have been wondering what to write about, but it has finally dawned on me and what my current annoyances are. So this particular posting has nothing to do with food and everything to do with the world that we live.

In light of recent events, such as the nonsense of the MTV VMA's several of my peers posted how much they hated Kanye West and how much they loved Taylor Swift. Personally it makes me angry that people are getting worked up over celebrities, who don't know or care about these people and are making millions of dollars, and with this controversy...more money will circulate between the two stars. It really gets to me, especially when there are so many bigger things at hand.

the first being the problems of our world and country. Starting with the following:

1)everynight there is someone that goes to bed hungry, who sleeps on the street, who doesn't have anywhere to turn.

2) Each day people are dying by disease because they can't afford medical coverage, the rich give to useless charities, and the poor keep getting poorer.

3) Each day we waste something, whether it is energy or food. Food that could be feeding other people, energy that could save our earth.

4) More and more healthy food is on the rise, but there is a small price to pay to afford a healthy lifestyle. No one should have to pay as much as they do for food, and no farmer should have to lose their job because of mega corporations producing mega processed foods.

5) People wanted change and change is what we got, but people are so quick to criticize the president on not moving fast enough or not working hard enough...many people tend to forget that Rome wasn't built in a day.

I could write on and on forever, but we need to look at a way to fix the problems of our society. As I just visited Boston, I was thinking how wonderful it was that they are recycling buildings and moving various hotels, apartments, and businesses into them instead of knocking things down an rebuilding, which only ruins our precious earth. Why is it that people can't grasp the concept of RECYCLING? We have become such a Germaphobic nation hardly anything can be reused. It is my wish that life would go back to the necessities and not the wants and needs. Especially my generation, because we are so quick to blame the other generations, but we never try to work to find a solution to the problem. WE are the selfish generation, the ones who put our needs first and others needs later.

With one step at a time we can become less selfish, we can become truly great contributors to our society. So, if anyone is reading this...I give you your first assignment, and once you complete this assignment, please comment back.... SO HERE IS WHAT I AM ASKING:

*Do something for another person, something deep and meaningful to you, but you must also do something to protect our earth, there are several ways you can protect  our planet, and as hard as it may sound, with a little encouragement, perhaps everyone can learn to RESPECT what we live on and who we live with, regardless of the circumstances*

So, I promise I will put some natural and tasty ideas up in my next post, so while your waiting, please consider what Obama said during Ted Kennedy's Eulogy and try to follow in Ted Kennedy's footsteps, regardless of politic affiliation  :

"What we can do is to live out our lives as best we can with purpose, and with love, and with joy. We can use each day to show those who are closest to us how much we care about them, and treat others with the kindness and respect that we wish for ourselves. We can learn from our mistakes and grow from our failures. And we can strive at all costs to make a better world, so that someday, if we are blessed with the chance to look back on our time here, we know that we spent it well; that we made a difference; that our fleeting presence had a lasting impact on the lives of others."- President Barack Obama

Let's start out.

I begin this blog by stating:

I, Daniela Puorto, have never seriously blogged before. However, I would like to start blogging about our natural resources and most importantly incorporating food into this plot. Recently, I discovered the Julie/Julia Project, in which Julie Powell blogged about and cooked her way through Julia Child's cookbook.

I have grown up with a love of food, as my love handles can attest. My mom has always been an excellent cook and our house rarely watchs anything, except for hours upon hours of food network. We have cook books that could heat a small community and we always make food for 60 even if we are only having 6 for dinner.

So, with my babbling, I would like to propose this experiment in food and environment. An experiment that regrows mother earth, teachs others about the importance of natural resources, keeps me sane, and works towards a healthy, natural, fresh way of living and eating.
